Last season was exceptionally close with a number of teams vying for promotion spots and play-off places and there is no reason to believe that it won't be similarly nail-biting this campaign. The three promoted teams, Derby, Reading and Birmingham will start off as favourites although it can often take some time to re-adjust as Sheffield United found out to their cost last season. Other teams likely to be pushing for promotion include Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Watford who all lost in the play-offs and QPR who are backed by some of the richest men in the world.
